Q1: What's a license? How do I purchase a license?
A: A license is a right to use the images/videos. When you purchase images/videos from our website, you purchase a right to use them. After payment, you will get a non-watermarked copy of the images/videos for your use. The scope of usage is determined by the type of license. There are also restrictions for all license types. For more details click here!
To purchase a license:
- first determine the license type that you would need (see the FAQs below or full licensing terms here);
- navigate to the page of the image/video you want to purchase (you can either browse our galleries by themes, or enter keywords in the search box - correct spelling needed);
- click on the corresponding "Buy" or "$" button, choose image/video size (if applicable) and add it to cart; repeat the process for all images/videos you want to purchase;
- after successful payment you will receive 2 emails: one for the receipt of purchase (immediately), and a second email for download links - this may take anywhere from minutes to hours, depending on the size of your order - orders with video(s) usually take longer to process.
Use of images/videos without a license is illegal. The copyright of all images/videos remains with Alila Medical Media.
Q2: I am a student and want to use images/videos for my school project (only), what license do I need?
A : Student/Teacher License.
Q3: I am a teacher and want to use images/videos for my lectures (classroom only), what license do I need?
A : Student/Teacher License. Please note you can NOT share the images/videos with other teachers with this license. NO web use is allowed with this license. If you use images/videos for an online course, you would need our Standard or Extended license (see Q4).
Q4: I am a student/teacher and want to use images/videos for my website, what license do I need?
A : Standard License when the lifetime number of visitors to your website is less than 100,000; Extended License when that number surpasses 100,000. You can always start with a Standard License and upgrade later when you reach that number (just email us with your order information).
Q5: I have licensed some images/videos, can I give them to my friend/colleague to use as well?
A : No. A license is required for each person; or, in case of Extended license, each company/organization. If you purchase an Extended license for your organization/university/company, the images/videos can be used by all persons currently (and only) working for the organization/university/company.
Q6: I am a web designer/media maker and want to use images/videos for my clients, what license do I need?
A: You would need to purchase one license for each of your clients. The type of license is determined by your client use of images/videos. You are welcome to edit/modify the images/videos to suit your client needs, but the images/videos will remain copyrighted by Alila Medical Media no matter how much you modify them.
Q7: I am buying images/videos for my university/practice/company/organization, what license do I need?
A: If you are the only one who are handling the image/video usage (the images/videos are saved only on your computer): Standard License if the number of image copies needed (print-run or number of viewers) is less than 100,000. Extended License if it's more than 100,000. Also see note below.
If you are sharing the images/videos with your colleagues in your organization you would need Extended license regardless of the number of image copies. Alternatively, you may also obtain one Standard License for each user in your university/practice/company/organization.
NOTE: If you choose to purchase a Standard License for your university/practice/company/organization use, you will be the person responsible for proper usage of the images/videos by your organization; your organization can use the images/videos only for as long as you are working for the organization. If for some reason you leave the organization, all images/videos licensed under your name and Standard License must be removed from uses (app, website,..) immediately.
Q8: I am NOT a teacher or a student, I just need the images/videos for one single presentation, without uploading them on any web-based platform, what license do I need?
A : Student/Teacher License.
Q9: I want to use the images/videos for legal proceedings, what license do I need?
A: Extended license, one license per case.
Q10: I want to use the images/videos for broadcasting, what license do I need?
A: If you are the only one who are handling the image/video usage (the images/videos are saved only on your computer): Standard License if the intended audience is less than 100,000 viewers; Extended License if the intended audience is more than 100,000 viewers.
If you are sharing the images/videos with your colleagues in your organization you would need Extended license regardless of the size of your intended audience.
Q11: I want to post the images/videos on social media as standalone files (Youtube, Vimeo, Facebook, Twitter, or similar platforms), what license do I need?
A: Social Media license.
Q12: Is there a time limit for licenses?
A: No, there is NO time limit for our licenses. Once purchased, a license is valid for lifetime, provided that other conditions are met.
Q13: What are the formats/file size of delivered images/videos?
A: All images are delivered in jpeg. All videos are delivered in mp4 - mp4 file size is generally in between 5MB and 25MB.
We can also deliver mov format for videos upon request - file size for .mov is much larger, generally in the hundreds of MB.
Q14: Can I edit/modify/translate the images/videos?
You are free to edit/modify/translate the images/videos to suit your needs. You can also use frames of videos as still images. However, all images/videos and their elements will remain copyrighted by Alila Medical Media, and subject to the same licensing terms, no matter how much you modify them.
Q15: Where can I find pricing information?
A: To see the prices please click on the "Buy" or "$" buttons ( "Buy Student/Teacher license download", “Buy Standard license download”, “Buy Extended license download"...) on individual image/video page. The prices vary depending on the type of license and image/video size required.
Q16: Do you offer discount?
A: Yes, there are many ways to enjoy great prices on our website:
- Buy 3 images get 1 free - this applies to Standard License, M size images (1500px) ONLY - you get 4 images for $90 (Usual price is $120). Simply use the "Add to package" button on image page.
- Get up to 30% OFF using our volume purchase discount. See DETAILS HERE!
- Purchase the whole gallery: this is a fast way to add all the images/videos of a gallery in to cart, and at the same time enjoy a discount rate of up to 70%, depending on the gallery. Look for and click on the "Buy whole gallery & Save" button on top of a gallery on the gallery page (not all galleries have this option, if the button is not there, the option is not available), you can then choose the desired license and image/video size. For best result please purchase one gallery at a time to avoid having too many files in one order, which would increase the processing time. Please expect longer processing time for large order (up to 4 hours occasionally). This whole sale option is currently available to all image galleries and some of the video and mix galleries (galleries by Medical specialties).

Q17: What kind of payment do you accept?
A: We offer two online payment options: 1. Paypal, which accepts: all major credit cards, Paypal, and depending on your location : eCheque and bank transfer. 2. Stripe, which accepts all major credit cards. Download and print processing are instant with online payment.
We also offer off-line payment options: check, money order (US only), and wire transfer (US and international, from business accounts only). Please choose "off-line payment" at checkout and contact us at email@example.com for instructions. Please note, however, that orders will be processed only after payment is received and cleared. For wire transfer, a transaction fee of $35 will be added to your bill - this is the fee charged by our bank; you are also responsible for transaction fee charged by your bank (if any).
Q18: I have paid for my purchase, now what?
A: You will receive, shortly after successful online payment, an email with a link to download the images/videos. Orders with videos and larger orders will take longer to process. Please make sure your email address is correct - please email us immediately if you think you may have misspelled your email address while placing the order. Most orders are processed within 30 min; occasionally, however, it may take up to 4 hours. Orders with multiple videos usually take several hours. Please check your junk mail folder before contacting us. You can also log into your account to check the status of your order and download your order from there. The download link is valid for one week from the date of purchase. During this time, the images/videos can be downloaded as many times as needed. If for some reason you need to download the files again when the link has expired, simply email us with your order number and we will make it available again for another week.
If you order prints, you will receive an email with a tracking number of your shipment once the prints are shipped.
Some email providers block our emails - this usually happens with special email domains (corporate, university email...). If that might be the case, please use gmail, yahoo, hotmail... to contact us. In any case, you should be able to log in to your account and download your order from there when it is ready.
Q19: How safe is my financial transaction on your website? Do you store my financial information?
A: Online transactions are handled entirely by secured system of Paypal or Stripe. We do NOT have access to your financial information.
We also offer off-line payment options for those who prefer not to pay online (please see Q17 above).
Q20: What is your return policy?
We regret that we can NOT entertain any return requests. This is due to the nature of our products, downloadable items are impossible to return. Thank you for your understanding.
