Cortical language control.
The language pathway begins in Wernicke’s area, which receives information from the auditory and/or visual cortex and is responsible for language comprehension. The information then goes through the arcuate fasciculus to Broca’s area. Broca’s area is responsible for the production of meaningful language. Output from Broca’s area goes to motor cortex for control of the muscles involved in speech.
