Menkes disease (MNK) pathology

Copper is absorbed by the enterocytes of the small intestine and effluxed to other organs through portal circulation, this process is defective in Menkes disease patients and results in accumulation of copper in the small intestine and overall copper deficiency in other organs of the body.
